Dive Locations

Great Long Island Dive Spots

Below is a listing of some public or open beaches that are assessable by divers. We have also included directions and any notes you might find helpful.

Beach Atlantic Beach Bridge
Directions "Sunrise Highway" to "Broadway" (in Lynbrook). Go south, Broadway will become to "Empire Ave". Cross over "Seagirt Blvd". Turn left on "Seagirt Ave". Turn right on "Beach 6th St." take this to the end and park.
Notes Strong currents are in the area. Dive at slack tide.

Beach Bannister Creek Barge
Directions "Sunrise Highway" to "Broadway" (in Lynbrook). Go south, Broadway will become "Empire Ave". Turn left onto "Seagirt Blvd." Just before the 'Atlantic Beach Bridge', turn into the dirt lot and park.
The barge is across the creek.

Notes Watch for boat traffic in the creek.

Beach Bayville Barge
Directions "Long Island Expressway" to exit 41 North (Rts 106/107). Bear right to "Route 106 North". Make a left onto "Berry Hill Road" and take to the end. There is an elementary school, the Teddy Roosevelt Elementary School at the end with a traffic light. Make a left there onto "Shore Drive". Take this to the end. Go over the drawbridge and continue to "Bayville Ave" and make a right. Make a left onto "Greenwhich Ave". The wreck is about 100' straight offshore.
Notes The road is now a 'private road' and there is no parking except in the restaurant lot. It is wise to park, dive, and get out before the restaurant opens up, other wise your car could be towed.

Beach Beach 9th Street
Directions "Sunrise Highway" to "Broadway" (in Lynbrook), and go south. Broadway will become "Empire Ave". Cross over "Seagirt Blvd", make a left onto "Seagirt Ave". Make a right on to "Beach 8th Street and park.
Notes Watch for boat traffic and currents.

Beach Caumsett State Park
Directions "Long Island Expressway" to exit 49 North, "Rt 110". Go north. Make a right onto "25A". Make a right onto "West Neck Road". Park will be on the left.
Notes NYS Permit is required to dive and/or fish. This is a State Park!

Beach Secret Beach (Clarkes Beach)
Directions "Long Island Expressway " to exit 73 East, "Old Country Road". Old Country road becomes "Main Road". Make a left onto "Youngs Avenue". Make a right onto "Middle Road". You will see a motel about a half mile from a turn off on the left. There will be a dirt road on the left, follow this to the water.

Beach HMS Culloden
Directions Take the LIE (495) to exit 70 (south) proceed to Sunrise Hwy. (Rt27).Travel east on Sunrise to the end, this turns into Montauk Hwy. (Rt.27A). Continue east to the town of Montauk. Turn left onto Edgemere St. which will turn onto Flamingo Ave. Turn left onto Duryea Ave. take this to the end and turn right onto Soundview Drive. Take Soundview Dr. until it turns into a dirt road and continue about a ??le and turn right onto another dirt road (no name) take it to the end and park.
Notes This is a wreck dive (see our wreck pages) and also is a protected site. Leave nothing but bubbles and take nothing but pictures.

Beach Mount Sinai Harbor
Directions Take the LIE (495) to exit 63 north to 25A and head east. Make a left on to Echo Ave. and left onto Pipestave Hollow Rd. (cross over North Country Rd.) continue to Harbor Beach Rd. and make a left. The harbor should be on your left side. Continue to the fishing pier and park.
Notes

Beach Ponquogue Bridge
Directions Take Sunrise Hwy. To exit 65 south. Make a left onto Montauk Hwy. , then a right onto Ponquogue Ave. take it to the end and take it to Shinnecock Ave. This is the new bridge. Drive over it and make a U-turn onto the service road. Park in the dirt lot located on the south side of the old bridge.
Notes This dive must be done during slack water due to the strength of the current. Stay out of the middle of the channel.

Beach Beekman's Beach
Directions "Long Island Expressway" to exit 41 North (Rts 106/107). Bear right to "Route 106 North". Make a left onto "Berry Hill Road" and take to the end. There is an elementary school, the Teddy Roosevelt Elementary School at the end with a traffic light. Make a left there onto "Shore Drive". Make the second right onto "Bayside Ave". Cross over the abandonded railway tracks and make the left onto "West End". Go to the end and park.
Notes There is an old ship yard just to the right of the beach which should yeild some interesting artifacts. This is susposed to be a "Town Beach", be we've dove it many times without any problems.

Beach Bay Park - 571-7821
Directions First Avenue, East Rockaway

Beach Gravies Point Museum and Preserve - 571-8010

Beach Hempstead Harbor Beach Park - 571-7930

Beach Cedar point County Park - 852-7620
Directions East Hampton -
Montauk Highway east to Stephen Hands Path in East Hampton. Turn north and continue to Old North West Road. Bear left and continue to Alewive Brrok Road. The park entrance is nearly 100 yards down the road.
Notes This is a Suffolk County Parks Department Beach:
1) Divers must have a C-Card on them
2) Divers must register at the entry desk
3) Divers are required to display the "Diver Down" flag when in the water
4) All park users must purchase a Green Key Card
5) If site can be accessed via four whell drive vehicle, a vehicle permit is also required
6) Divers who are also campint must adhere to the rules and regulations that apply to campers.

Beach Theodore Roosevelt County Park - 852-7878
Directions Montauk-
Montauk Highway east through Montauk village. Continue on Montauk Highway past East Lake Drive. Park sign and entrance is on north side of Montauk Highway.
Notes This is a Suffolk County Parks Department Beach:
1) Divers must have a C-Card on them
2) Divers must register at the entry desk
3) Divers are required to display the "Diver Down" flag when in the water
4) All park users must purchase a Green Key Card
5) If site can be accessed via four whell drive vehicle, a vehicle permit is also required

Beach Smith point County Park - 852-1316
Directions Shirley -
William Floyd Parkway (LIE exit 68 south) to its southern terminus at Fire Island. Access via four wheel drive to Moriches Inlet.
Notes This is a Suffolk County Parks Department Beach:
1) Divers must have a C-Card on them
2) Divers must register at the entry desk
3) Divers are required to display the "Diver Down" flag when in the water
4) All park users must purchase a Green Key Card
5) If site can be accessed via four whell drive vehicle, a vehicle permit is also required

Beach Cupsogue Beach County Park - 852-8111
Directions West Hampton -
From the village of Westhampton Beach, go south on Jessup Lane and cross the bridge. Turn right onto Dune Road. Follow Dune Road to its western terminus in Westhampton Beach.

1) Divers must have a C-Card on them
2) Divers must register at the entry desk
3) Divers are required to display the "Diver Down" flag when in the water
4) All park users must purchase a Green Key Card

Beach Meschutt Beach County Park - 852-8205
Directions Hampton Bays -
Notes Snorkeling is available along the jetty at the beach.
